ENTREPRENEURIAL students have made a cracking start to raising funds for a special royal event with an Easter fair.
Students at West Park Academy, Darlington, welcomed hundreds of visitors to their annual Easter fair to help raise money for a special garden party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
The fair, organised by pupils and class teachers, included stalls selling cakes, jewellery, recycled artwork, books, an Easter egg tombola, pick a straw and a lucky dip.
Principal Catherine Thompson said: “The children love organising the annual Easter fair and this year they decided to use it to raise money for a whole school party to celebrate the Queen’s birthday in the summer.
“We will be inviting parent and members of the community to dress up in their finery and best hats and join us for a Buckingham Palace-style garden party on Friday June 10 to help celebrate her majesty’s 90th year.
“Our pupils have been incredibly entrepreneurial this year, creating recycled artwork and making cakes to sell and once again we have had an incredible turnout from our local community.”
Fair-goers also enjoyed a sweet treat with an Easter candy trolley and a potted plant and flower stall, manned by five-year-old Lucy McGuire, which helped to bring a touch of colour to the start of spring.
Pupil Isabelle Birkby, seven, of Darlington, who helped to create some of the recycled artwork for the fair, added: “We sold all of our recycled CD animals, painted money boxes and pencil pots for 50p each.
“It has been a lot of funs and has helped us to raise lots of money for our party for the Queen.”
