FASHIONABLE clothes and glittering jewellery are up for grabs as a North-East racecourse puts on the style this weekend.

Redcar stages its newly-named Gin & Gents Evening meeting on Saturday with fabulous prizes worth more than £1,000 for the Best Dressed Gent and Best Dressed Couple.

It’s glamour all the way, with the gates opening at 3pm and the first race off at 4.55pm.

The Best Dressed Gent competition will take place after the third race and first prize will be a suit, shirt, tie, handkerchief and shoes from Bakers Tailoring, plus a Tommy Hilfilger watch provided by Market Cross Jewellers, as well as a bottle of champagne.

Second prize is a £50 gift voucher from Market Cross Jewellers, and third prize is a voucher for four VIP tickets to Redcar Races.

The Best Dressed Couple competition takes place after the fourth race, and first prize is a ladies’ Olivia Burton Watch, and a Men’s Armani Watch, provided by Market Cross Jewellers. The winners will also receive a one-day hat hire from Chic Hats, plus a cut and blow-dry with styling product goodie bag from Orange Kerr Hair & Beauty, a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of flowers.

Second prize is a £50 gift voucher from Market Cross Jewellers and a voucher for four VIP tickets to Redcar Races. Third prize is a voucher for two tickets to the races.

Last year’s Best Dressed Gent was Ellis Allison, 20, of Stockton, and the Best Dressed Couple title went to Sarah Dunbar and Darren Fixter, of Middlesbrough.

The competition winners will also have the rare honour of presenting trophies in the winner’s enclosure after selected races.

Redcar’s general manager Amy Fair said: “We had some fabulous outfits on display on Ladies’ Day in June, and now it’s the turn of the gents and couples to show how stylish they can be. If last year is anything to go by, the standard is going to be very high.”
