The North East’s largest dental clinic is set to expand with the acquisition and redevelopment of The Orthodontic Practice in Jesmond.

Re-opening this summer following a £400k investment, which included support from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, Queensway Jesmond marks the start of a new era for specialist orthodontic and dental care in Newcastle.

Queensway, which was founded in Billingham in 1993, recently invested in the refurbishment of the city-based clinic to meet the growing demands of its clients from the region.

The expansion of the existing Eslington Terrace practice will enable the business to take on five new members of staff and increase capacity by over 200% in the first year.

The organisation, which comprises Queensway DentalQueensway OrthodonticsQueensway Skin Clinic and Dental Laboratory, intends to grow its 116-strong headcount by a further 15 employees by 2018.

Following an organisation rebrand, the new Jesmond practice offers a comprehensive range of specialist and general dental care, including orthodontics and restorative dentistry, along with dental implants, oral surgery and anxiety management.

Since taking ownership of the premise in August 2016, a sensitive refurbishment of the 19th century building has been completed. Patient-focused technologies include a state-of-the-art 3D scanner, impression-free dental scans and new hi-spec surgeries have been installed.

The practice will be able to accommodate private patients of all ages and needs, seeking either orthodontic or dental care.

Dr Paul Averley, managing partner, has seen the Billingham practice grow from four surgeries to 22 and has set his sights on further future growth.

He said: “As one of the largest one-site facilities providing dental care in the UK, Queensway is committed to caring for patients in a professional and comprehensive way and we strive to deliver an exceptional experience.

“When all stages of the refurbishment are completed we will have five modern surgeries and it’s our aim to offer both patients and the referring dental community access to a range of specialist services in one location, with support from Queenway’s Billingham-based dental laboratory.

Dr Guy Deeming, lead specialist orthodontist and partner, added: “As one of the North East’s most established providers of specialist orthodontic and dental care, the Jesmond practice will allow more patients and families to benefit from this experience under one roof.

“One of the most exciting developments is that as the region’s largest specialist provider of Invisalign and the only specialist Invisalign Teen provider, patients will be able to benefit from incredible cutting-edge technology.”

Dr Brian Wilson, former owner of the Orthodontic Practice and Specialist Orthodontist, said: “I’m delighted that the practice has been taken over by Queensway.  After 25 years here it’s great to see it being developed in to a centre of excellence in the heart of Newcastle.

“I’ve built up a great relationship with colleagues in the North East during my time at The Orthodontic Practice and know that the team at Queensway will keep this relationship going.”

Stuart Harper, relationship director for healthcare, North East at Lloyds Bank, added: “The opening of this new dental clinic is great news for the local community, bringing jobs to the area and providing an improved level of care by increasing capacity and offering a more comprehensive and innovative range of treatments.

“With trends in dentistry continuing to change due to the demand on clinics to provide a wider variety of procedures, dental professionals must map out ways to stay ahead of the curve. We’re proud to be helping Britain prosper by supporting dynamic healthcare services, like Queensway Jesmond, with its ambitious growth plans.”
