Red House School celebrates 90 years of success with another set of outstanding GCSE results

Pupils at Red House School, a thriving independent school in Norton, are on cloud nine after achieving outstanding GCSE results.

The school, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary, achieved an incredible 99 per cent of grades at 4-9 (previously A*-C) on top of a 100 per cent pass rate.

Almost a quarter of the GCSE results were grades 8-9 (previously A*) with 47 per cent receiving grades 7-9 (previously A*-A).

Pupils and parents were delighted with the results. In particular Atticus, Sophie, Rohan and James did extremely well and achieved the top marks of 7-9 (previously A*-A) in all of their subjects; collectively they gained 41 GCSEs at grades 7-9 (previously A*-A), including a very challenging Further Maths qualification.

Atticus Garlick, Head Boy at Red House School, who gained 11 GCSEs at grades 8-9 (previously A*), said: “I’m absolutely delighted with my results; all my hard work has paid off. I can’t believe I got the highest possible grade A^ (equivalent to an A**) in Further Maths. I’m now going on to study A level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics.”

Sophie Ashforth, Head Girl at Red House School, who gained nine GCSEs at grades 7-9 (previously A*-A), said: “I had a sleepless night last night but I am very pleased with my results. I’m now going to study German, History and Maths at A level.”

Rohan Garud, who gained 10 GCSEs at grades 7-9 (previously A*-A), said: “I’m very happy with my results. I’m looking forward to studying A level Maths, Further Maths and Economics.”

James Wells, who gained nine GCSEs at grades 7-9 (previously A*-A) said: “I’m delighted with my results and I’m looking forward to studying at Queen Elizabeth, Darlington.”

As well as the exceptional GCSE results, the school recently received top marks in the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) report, receiving the highest rating of ‘Excellent’ in every category.

Red House School pupils are supported and encouraged throughout their education to develop their interests and talents.

James Foster did extremely well achieving nine great passes in his GCSEs whist being on day release to Sunderland Football Academy; an incredible achievement.

Ethan Brown also performed very well gaining 10 excellent GCSE passes. During his final GCSE year Ethan excelled at swimming where we represented Red House School at the National ISA Swimming Gala in London, winning three gold medals as well as setting national records in Mauritius in the 100m butterfly and backstroke and winning four gold medals.

Headmaster, Mr Ken James, is incredibly proud of the Year 11 pupils and their achievements.

He said: “What a year! It’s wonderful that we are celebrating the school’s 90 years of excellence with a magnificent 99 per cent pass rate at grades 4-9 (previously A*-C). To receive such wonderful results only goes to affirm the findings of the independent schools inspection team. Pupils and staff have been justly rewarded for their excellent endeavours throughout the year.”
