Redcar event to promote community safety

Redcar_and_Cleveland_Borough_CouncilA COMMUNITY event is set to take place at Redcar & Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart on Friday, April 15, to raise awareness of safety initiatives for people aged over 50.

Organised by Redcar and Cleveland’s Older People’s Partnership (OPP), the event will hold stalls from various service providers offering support, information and advice.

Cleveland Police will be offering advice on personal and community safety, Cleveland Fire Brigade will be advising on safety in the home and specialised equipment people can access, Barclays Bank will be raising awareness around digital safety, and National Trading Standards will advise on loan sharking and doorstep scamming.

Age UK, People’s Information Network, Health Improvement, Homecall, Red Cross, Guide Dogs, Action for the Blind, and Independent Age are also set to have stalls at the event.

Cllr Helen McLuckie, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said: “This will be a fantastic event which will provide support to our residents on how to keep safe against doorstep scams, in the home, online and more.

“We encourage as many people as possible to come along and take advantage of the free and valuable advice available.”

The event will be from 12pm to 2pm where presentations and a prize raffle will also take place. For more information, please call Gemma Marshall on 07775 411489.
