Redcar Opticians launches industry first savings scheme

Redcar-based IntelliSight Opticians is helping families across Teesside manage the cost of eye-care by becoming the first in the industry to offer a savings club. The club allows individuals to spread the cost of purchasing glasses, contact lenses and services across a five, ten or fifteen-week period.

The bold move is a first for the industry and has been launched as many people feel the pinch in the run up to the big spending festive period. Customers can pay money in each week and build up an account to then redeem in-store against products and services.

The savings launch follows on the back of other unique initiatives IntelliSight offers its customers, such as on-site workplace eye-tests and regular Facebook Live sessions to address customer queries.

Speaking at the launch, MD and Optometrist Julie Breen said: “Savings schemes have always been popular in December, whether for presents, food or vouchers, online or in supermarkets, and it’s easy to see why. Being able to put a little aside each week can really help people to manage their budgets.

“We know that come January people are under increasing pressure financially and we wanted to apply the same principle that allows people to save for the ‘nice to haves’ at Christmas to save for the essentials such as proper eye-care.

“As an independent optician we are in a great position to be able to offer something different to our customers and we believe we are the first in our industry to offer such a service. We’ve been very happy with the take-up so who knows, we may see some others following suit!”
