TEESSIDE students have shown they’re in the business of giving this month after hosting a fundraising event at a local care residency in aid of Age UK.
The Year 1 and 2 Level 3 Business students visited the Caremark Home Care provider in Eston to host a fundraising morning which included refreshments, games and interactive quizzes for the residents.
Seventeen students took part in the event as part of their BTEC unit and raised over £250 for Age UK which is the country’s largest charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life.
Bradley Hill, a Level 3 Business student at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “A number of our grandparents live on their own and find it financially difficult sometimes – the recent Christmas appeal by Age UK hit us all hard and so we decided that for the event this year we wanted to do something for the older generation.
“I’m so pleased we helped to raise money for such a worthwhile cause.”
Caremark offers domiciliary care and support services, including 24-hour live-in care, to people within their own homes and in their local communities and offers care and support to children, young people and adults who require care but wish to continue living at home safely and comfortably. They provide care for a range of groups, including the elderly and infirm, people with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems, and those with physical disabilities.
Rachael Glen, course leader for Travel and Tourism and Business at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “Hosting the event at a care home was a great opportunity for students to see how their fundraising efforts will directly benefit elderly people.”
