For young people, making the most of their money is all too important, with studying, shopping and socialising all high on the agenda.

Local bus operator Stagecoach North East is reminding young people across the north east to get on board this autumn and renew their VIP (Very Independent Person) card to save money on travel.

The VIP card is an all year round exclusive ID card which gives young people from the ages of five to 18 the chance to hop on board any Stagecoach bus and buy a VIP ticket, to travel anywhere in the region as often as they like. Importantly, the deal is not just limited to students; anyone aged 18 years and under can apply for a VIP ID card.

New customers or those who hold a ticket for 2015/2016, which was valid until 31 August, can apply for their new VIP cards for this year now. Forms are available to download online at www.stagecoachbus.com/vip.

The scheme, which brings much valued independence and freedom from parents and family, means young passengers can travel around Newcastle, South Shields, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Teesside from as little as £1.10 a day from now until 31 August 2017.

Stagecoach North East has promoted the scheme throughout the north east through a digital and social media campaign, as well as outdoor advertising and direct mail, to ensure young people do not miss out.

Colin Newbury, Operations Director, Stagecoach North East said: “We are aware that finances are stretched when you are young and that making the most of your education, work or busy personal life can sometimes be difficult. The VIP scheme is here to help young people, and their parents, save money and travel cheaply, quickly and safely, whether it be travelling from school, college, work or socially.”

Young people can use their VIP ID to buy VIP tickets for unlimited travel on any Stagecoach North East bus in Tyne and Wear and the Tees Valley, as many times as they wish for a day (£2.35) or week (£8.00). Additionally, they can buy VIP tickets online for four weeks (£30.60).
