CaptureResidents can brush up on their online skills at an up and coming free course.

‘Time to get online’ raises awareness of digital technology and its training programmes aim to show participants that the internet is not as daunting as it may appear.

Supported by a County Durham Housing Group, Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes, East Durham Homes and Teesdale Housing Association partnership, an interactive session will take place on Wednesday, 17 February between 10am and 12pm at Mickle Grove Community Hub in Bishop Auckland.

By signing up participants will be teamed up with a ‘Digital Champion’ who will show them the advantages the internet offers, including keeping in touch with friends and family, looking for a new job, saving money and much more.

Vickie Musgrove, Digital Inclusion Project Co-ordinator, said: “Our society is constantly evolving and is more and more placed within a digital platform, especially when you think about the government’s welfare reform plans and the introduction of Universal Credit.

“We want to show people that online technology is nothing to be afraid of and the benefits in all aspects of life are endless.

“And as well as our event on 17th, there’s still time to sign up to this week’s session on Thursday, 11 February between 2pm and 4pm at Horden Youth and Community Centre.”

For more information on both events call 0800 083 0333 or visit www.timetogetonline.org.uk, which promotes up and coming sessions across the county as well as providing self-help guides.
