Residents throw surprise baby shower for their nurse

A SURPRISE baby shower was thrown for an expectant nurse by the elderly residents she helps care for.

Residents at The Beeches Care Home, on Green Lane, Stockton-on-Tees, organised the celebration themselves for district nurse Jenny Wood.

They wanted to say thank you for all her hard work ahead of her maternity leave – with her baby due on 19th October.

They started a collection for Jenny weeks in advance before surprising her with afternoon tea, non-alcoholic prosecco, cupcakes, balloons, bunting, prediction cards and other gifts.

Each resident and staff member at the party filled out the prediction cards, which asked them to guess the date and time of birth, height, weight, girl or boy, name suggestions and if they think the baby will look like the mother or father.

Jenny, who was moved to tears and speechless when she walked into the party, said: “I’m still completely lost for words. A huge shout out to my Beeches family.

“I cannot believe all of the effort you’ve gone to.  Baby Wood has been very spoilt and I just cannot thank you enough.  It was the best surprise ever.”

Jessica Roth, activities coordinator at The Beeches Care Home, said: “The residents approached me a few weeks ago to ask if we could start a collection for Jenny and the baby as they wanted to thank her for all her hard work. Then they asked for a baby shower, so all of us including the residents got planning.

“It was great fun for everyone but especially Jenny. When she walked in there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

“Everyone at The Beeches wishes her well and we can’t wait to meet Baby Wood when he or she arrives next month.”
