British_Basketball_League_(emblem)Esh Group Eagles Newcastle and Sheffield Sharks advanced to the Quarter-Finals in the BBL Trophy, while Plymouth University Raiders and Cheshire Phoenix earned BBL Championship wins, on Sunday.

The defending Trophy champions, Newcastle, recorded a 91-75 triumph away at Manchester Giants with Andrew Thomson scoring all of his 21 points in the first half.

Sheffield avoided an upset by seeing off NBL D1 opponents Derby Trailblazers 84-67 on the road with Antone Robinson posting a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds to help his side advance.

Meanwhile, Plymouth held their nerve late on to defeat Leeds Force 76-72 behind 24 points and seven assists from Josh Wilcher to move into the top eight.
Finally, Cheshire ended a run of five straight league defeats as they claimed a 95-84 win at home to Worcester Wolves as Kinu Rochford filled the stat-sheet with 31 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.
BBL Trophy, First Round

Sheffield Sharks reached the Quarter-Finals of the BBL Trophy as they saw off NBL Division 1 opponents, Derby Trailblazers, with an 84-67 road win.
The 2013 winners progress to a last eight encounter away at either BBL rivals Plymouth University Raiders or another D1 opponent in Essex Leopards.
Antone Robinson led the way with 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting and 11 rebounds for another double-double.
Derby led by as many as five early on, before the Sharks quickly levelled at 15 and would lead at the end of the first. The game was in the balance midway through the second, but a 10-0 close from Sheffield allowed them some breathing space at the interval.
Atiba Lyons’ side continued to build on their advantage in the third, and established a commanding double-digit lead heading into the fourth. There was no let up in the final quarter and Sheffield safely booked their spot in the next round.
Five players in total reached double figures for the visitors as Jerrold Brooks and Mike Tuck both scored 12 points, while Colin Sing and John Barber added 10 points apiece.
Sydney Donaldson and Chris Taylor both contributed 16 points for the Trailblazers, but they were unable to inspire an upset.
BBL Championship
Plymouth University Raiders 76 (20,39,62) (Wilcher 24, Dixon/Vigor 14)
Leeds Force 72 (16,35,54) (Waller 28, Marsden 14, Wells 12)
Plymouth University Raiders leapfrogged Leeds Force into the Play-Off places with a 76-72 win over the Yorkshire club.
The visitors had the chance to tie the game inside the final 10 seconds, but turned the ball over and Daryl Corletto kept his cool to seal the win with a pair of free throws.
Josh Wilcher was at his instrumental best after netting 24 points including 11-of-14 from the line, along with handing out seven assists.
After conceding a 10-3 start, Plymouth grew into the game and after leading by four at the end of the first, they moved up by nine on a three from Wilcher. Leeds responded with an 13-3 run to take the lead, although their advantage was short-lived as the home side regained control heading into the interval.
Plymouth began to pull away in the third with back-to-back baskets from Mike Vigor helping create a double-digit lead. The advantage peaked at 12 points for the Raiders, but the visitors stormed back in the final quarter to set up a tense finish with Kwan Waller making it a two-point game late on with his fourth triple.
Plymouth were able to hold on and move into the top-eight for the first time this season with their seventh league win.
Waller had a game-high 28 points for Leeds, but they now fall to ninth with the loss.

Worcester Wolves 85 (19,39,70) (Losonsky 28, Jackman 19, Mugica 13)
Cheshire Phoenix produced a strong finish to overcome Worcester Wolves with a 94-85 victory in the BBL Championship.
The win ends a run of five straight defeats in the league for Phoenix as they boost their positioning within the top eight – just two points off the top four.
Kinu Rochford had another big game for Cheshire after racking up 31 points along with 14 rebounds and five assists. Danny Huffor weighed in with 23 points and Akeem Ellis had 22.
After an even opening period, Cheshire made a strong start to the second and established an 11-point advantage. Worcester cut the gap to just four going into half-time and began firing on the offensive end in the third by racking up 31 points in the quarter.

Worcester came into the game following a hard-fought overtime win in Bristol less than 24 hours earlier, and felt the effect late on in the game.
