Middlesbrough’s Dundas Market is looking for new and established independent retailers to join its shopping success story.

In contrast to a number of big name retailers, business is going from strength to strength for the community of independent traders at the town’s only indoor market.

In October (2018) the market’s manager David Harris announced that all of its retail space had been taken, but he has now created more room to welcome new businesses.

They will join a well-established range of retailers who provide complementary products and services for their customers.  In the market there are clusters of health and wellbeing businesses, fashion retailers, gift stores and food businesses all within a short distance of each other.

“Our success shows that there is a bright future for independent traders offering value-for-money, specialist, and often unique, goods and services, backed up by a great customer service and experience, strong promotion and the ability to adapt to new trends and markets,” said Mr Harris.

He is particularly keen to hear from greengrocers, bakers and suppliers of ethnic food, as well as vintage memorabilia retailers, sweets sellers, and fruit juice or milkshake bars operators.  There is also a vacancy for a tattooist.

“The success of our traders is due to their hard work and the quality of their customer service. They go out of their way to share their knowledge and ensure that the shopping experience is an extremely pleasant one,” continued Mr Harris.

“A number of our traders will be expanding in 2019, but with our new space available we are keen to hear from new and established retailers, especially from the types of business we know are in demand and which will enhance our offer.”

All Dundas Market’s businesses are promoted on its social media platforms and new retailers receive special support for the vital first few months of trading.  They are also eligible to rent one of the small number of Enterprise Units, from just £60 per week, on a short term tenancy agreement.  “It’s the ideal opportunity to properly test an idea without having to take too many risks,” said Mr Harris.

Dundas Indoor Market is located in the Dundas Shopping Centre where all the shops offer value for money, from national brands like B&M, Fulton Foods and Cooplands to well-known local independents like The Festival Shop, Tik Tok, Homefair Blinds, Buckshees Military Surplus, LD Printing and Miss Unique, many of which started life trading in Dundas Market.

More information about Enterprise Units and other units at Dundas Market is available from David Harris on tel. 01642 232552 or by email. david.harris@dundasindoormarket.co.uk.
