Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

RMT ACCOUNTANTS TAKES ON RECITE ME ASSISTED TECHNOLOGY TO ENHANCE WEB ACCESSIBILITY

RMT Accountants & Business Advisors has become the first regional professional services firm to adopt cutting-edge assisted technology developed in the North East that can instantly translate its website into more than 100 different languages.
Recite Me is cloud-based web accessibility software which allows users to fully customise a website in the way they need it to work best for them.
It works through a toolbar labelled ‘Accessibility’ in the top right hand corner of RMT’s website and has a broad range of features, including dyslexia software and an interactive dictionary.
It also translates text into more than 100 languages, has ‘text to speech’ functionality in up to 30 languages, and allows people to change elements of a website such as the font size, font colour and background colour contrast.
Developed by the Gateshead-based company of the same name, Recite Me can be used on any type of device, and MP3 files of written web content can also be downloaded as required.
It is now being widely used on the websites of a range of different businesses and organisations, including hospitals, hotels, higher education institutions and charities.
Ross Linnett, CEO of Recite Me, says: “Around a fifth of the UK population has a visual impairment, a learning difficulty like dyslexia or some other kind of disability, and these conditions can make accessing web-based information extremely difficult for some people.
“So much of the information that we all need in our daily lives is now online, and if you can’t access web content it can make many day-to-day tasks very difficult to do.
“By adding Recite Me to a website, businesses can ensure they are making a reasonable adjustment to comply with the web accessibility requirements of the Equality Act.
“Because Recite Me is cloud-based it works across all devices, whether your web visitors are in the office or at home on a PC, or on the move using a mobile device.
“RMT’s adoption of Recite Me shows how it can easily be added onto existing systems, and theirs is a great example of how forward-thinking firms can take steps to make sure their web content is fully accessible to everyone.”
Matthew Flinders, head of marketing at RMT Accountants, says: “It’s essential for us to be able to provide clients, contacts and other businesses with the information they are looking for in a way which suits their specific requirements.
“Recite Me’s multi-lingual functionality allows visitors to our website to access this information in their first language, which is especially helpful given the emphasis that is currently being placed on taking advantage of export opportunities in new markets.
“Being able to find a technology solution with its roots in our region is especially pleasing, and we believe this is something that businesses in every sector need to be seriously investigating.”
