On the Road for Festive Shopping

EVENING shoppers in Darlington are in for a festive treat as the first ever Grange Road Christmas shopping evening takes place on Thursday 7 December from 4.30-7.30pm.

Around 15 independent retailers have worked together on the evening which will feature special offers, hot chocolate, mince pies and mulled wine as well as bonus giveaways, raffle, tombola and much more.

To add to the atmosphere, St. Augustine’s School Choir will perform from 4.30-5.30pm and there will be musical entertainment from Chris Pryke acoustic singer song writer from Darlington and Durham and Darlington Music Service musicians will add festive cheer from 5.30-7.30pm. Grange Road hosts a wide range of shops including specialist fashions, home furnishing, florists, delicatessen, as well as bars and restaurants.

Event organiser Bill Gillow, of mens’ and ladies fashion retailer Geoffrey Gillow, said:

“Grange Road offers a unique shopping and leisure experience. We have worked together to offer an evening of shopping, entertainment and special offers with something to please everyone. We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new to what we feel is a unique and special part of Darlington.”

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration added:

“We are delighted to support this event. Darlington has a lot to offer shoppers and Grange Road in particular is home to a wide range of specialist independent shops. This is an ideal opportunity to come along and see what’s on offer as well as enjoy the festive entertainment.”

Parking and bus offers promise to make it easier and cheaper to get into Darlington over the festive period. Car park users can take advantage of three hours for the price of two in council-run short stay car parks until 2 January.

The offer will apply in the following car parks: Abbotts Yard, Archer Street, Commercial Street East & West, Feethams Multi Storey, Hird St, Kendrew Street East & West, Park Place East & West, St Hilda’s, Winston North & South.  In addition, parking is available for £2 for a full day in East Street car park. Offers do not apply to on-street pay and display bays

Bus users can take advantage of special ticket offers from Arriva with two unlimited travel tickets around the town for £5 (normal price £3.50 each).
