Durham County Council is to resurface the A67 junction of Bede Road and Harmire Road, with work to begin on Saturday 6 August and expected to last five days.
Work will take place between 8.30am and 7pm each day.
The road will remain open throughout with traffic controlled by three way temporary lights.
Motorists are warned to expect delays.
Brian Buckley, strategic highways manager, said: “This work is part of our ongoing programme to maintain roads across the county, to ensure they are in the best condition for the travelling public.
“We thank motorists in advance for their patience while this work is carried out.”
