downloadTHE achievements of children and young people in care will be celebrated at a special event this week.

The red carpet will be rolled out to welcome around 85 local young people to the glittering event at the Riverside Stadium on Friday (October 2).

The Oscar-themed 2015 Looked After Children Achievement Evening at the Riverside Stadium is recognition of the successes and achievements of the last year.

Awards and certificates will be presented by X Factor finalist Kerrianne Covell who will also perform at the event.

A number of awards will also be made for outstanding contributions in particular fields, and Richenda Broad, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Director of Wellbeing, Care and Learning will give a speech.

The event will feature a chance to meet Roary the Lion, bid for a signed pair of Boro star Stewart Downing’s boots, as well as a raffle for the foster carers, face painting, photo booth, candy floss/popcorn machine and a disco.

Councillor Mike Carr, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Children’s Social Care, said: “We do everything we can to ensure our looked after children have the best possible start in life.

“In turn they achieve great things across a huge array of different areas and disciplines, and they deserve recognition for their contribution to life in the town.

“The Achievement Evening is a fantastic opportunity for all involved to get together and celebrate some truly remarkable stories.”
