Romanby Roadies take to the Pyrenees for Charity

Screen Shot 2015-09-24 at 13.12.00A team of 14 cyclists from Northallerton have completed a grueling cycle challenge in the Pyrenees for charity!

They completed the Coast to Coast ride in six days covering  approximately 450 miles, starting in Biarritz (Atlantic Coast) and finishing in Argeles-sur-Mer (Mediterranean Coast) taking in the Pyrenees Mountains including the legendary and iconic climbs of the Col d’Aubisque and the Col du Tourmalet.

So far they have raised an amazing 5K for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) – a local charity that relies on the generosity of individuals and organisations to continue to save lives across Yorkshire.

As a rapid response air emergency service the charity serves a population of approximately 5 million people across 4 million acres. Their two Air Ambulances operate from The Nostell Priory Estate near Wakefield and RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk, and together they cover the whole of the region, seven days a week, 365 days a year – it costs £12,000 per day to keep helicopters maintained and in the air.

Severfield supported the ride as three of the team are employed at the site in Dalton and provided a staff minibus to take the cyclists to and from the airport and also arranged for a support vehicle to transport all of the bikes and cycle equipment to the south of France and back.
