Sage Gateshead is delighted to announce two new shows that are on sale now: prog-rock legends Marillion and comedian turned crooner Alexander Armstrong.

Marillion

Wednesday 11 April 2018, 7.30pm, Sage One

Prog rock giants MARILLION will play a date at Sage Gateshead as part of their extensive UK, Europe and North America tour, on the back of their October show at The Royal Albert Hall, which sold out within four minutes of going on sale, and The London Palladium in November, which also sold out in record time.

Marillion’s music is more than prog, it’s musically-experimental and yet-emotional. Within the genre it has a uniquely soul-baring aspect which sets the band apart and has elicited an almost religiously zealous following. After nearly 40 years, the band has evolved into a vibrant and international musical force, flourishing seemingly outside of fashion and mainstream media exposure. Since their formation, they have had 19 Top 30 singles, four of which made the Top 10.genre it has a uniquely soul-baring aspect which sets the band apart and has elicited an almost religiously zealous following. Marrillion are not just musically innovative, they are widely acknowledged to be the first band to use the-now-commonplace crowdfunding scheme. Pledge Music and Oxford University have acknowledged that the band invented the business model. In the late 90s, fans sponsored an entire US tour. An Evening with Alexander Armstrong

Wednesday 23 May 2018, 7.30pm, Sage One

The comedian, actor and presenter has had fantastic success in his latest venture as a solo singer.

After two Top 10 albums – ‘A Year of Songs’ (2015) and ‘Upon A Different Shore’ (2016) – Alexander Armstrong will release his first Christmas album ‘In A Winter Light’ on November 24th.

Having spent years performing in choirs, Armstrong’s beloved musical heritage is on full, glorious display on ‘In A Winter Light’.

Recorded with the City of Prague Orchestra, abetted by the Choir of New College, Oxford, the RAF Squadronaires big band and Jools Holland, it’s the rich, enveloping sound of a gifted baritone pursuing the range of his seasonal and musical passions.
