Sage Gateshead is delighted to announce three new shows that are on sale now. We are particularly pleased to bring, direct from the West End, the acclaimed production The Simon & Garfunkel Story. There’s also something for folk fans with Jez Lowe brining his Christmas tour to Sage Gateshead and for the younger members of the family (and their grownups) meet Bear and Butterfly.

Jez Lowe’s Yule Do

Friday 29 December, 8pm, Sage Two

Folk songwriter Jez Lowe’s Christmas tours have become something of a tradition in the North-East over the last 8 years, and indeed across the country, as he sets off once more on a festive winter-tainment night of songs, banter and seasonal scrooge-like tomfoolery.

So sit back and enjoy a ‘Yule Do’ with Jez Lowe (SONY Radio Academy Award Winner, 2015 Folk Awards Nominee) and his multi-talented band The Bad Pennies (featuring fiddle, Northumbrian Pipes, keyboards, guitar, bass, harmonica and voices) plus special guest folk balladeer and actor Benny Graham. As ever, Jez presents an original take on Christmas in the North, part folk-concert and part music-hall revue with great songs, humour and music as sell-out crowds across the country can testify

Bear and Butterfly

Sunday 14 January 2018, 11.30am & 2pm, Sage Two

Bear likes peace and quiet. Other folk are bothering and Bear does not like to be bothered.

One day, as Bear is sitting comfortably sipping his tea, deep in the branches of his tree he hears the munching and a crunching of a bright green Caterpillar.

Bear and Caterpillar soon become the best of friends, Caterpillar munching happily through heroic tales of Bear’s younger life catching fish, raising cubs and being big, strong and fierce.

But one day Caterpillar stops munching and looks sick. Bear fears he will lose his friend but, as if my magic, Caterpillar grows and stretches and from the leaves emerges a beautiful butterfly.

Can Bear come to terms with this new version of his friend who flies high above the trees and has stories of his own?

Puppetry, live music and beautiful storytelling combine in this charming tale about love, loss and friendship.

“Coupled with high production values and meticulous direction from Dani Parr, this is a show which audience members young and old will thoroughly enjoy.” British Theatre Guide
