SAFC mascots, Samson and Delilah, will be hosting a special children’s sandcastle competition at Roker beach onThursday May 28.

Aspiring architects and beachfront builders are being asked to bring their bucket and spade and report to the Beach House bistro, overlooking the seafront, at noon.

All entries will be given until 2.30pm to complete their creations, with the winner receiving four tickets to the Black Cats Family Fun Day at the Stadium of Light on Saturday July 4.

Samson said, “We’re confident that the young people of Sunderland and the wider North East will be able to impress us with their creative flair and, who knows, we may even see a makeshift mansion or two.”

The sandcastle competition, which is open to all ages, is one of a number of activities taking place at the Beach House during half term, with arts and crafts also offered daily from Bank Holiday Monday (May 25) to Friday May 29.

The venue, operated by 1879 Events Management, will also be serving a range of main meals, snacks, desserts and signature ice cream sundaes from 10am until 4pm throughout the week.
