STAFF and students fostered international harmony with a quintessentially English game of cricket.
The annual 20:20 match was staged by staff and overseas students at Barnard Castle School for the sixth time as an end of term treat in the beautifully maintained grounds
After a game characterised by good sportsmanship and friendly competition both sides enjoyed cucumber sandwiches and strawberries and cream.
The overseas team included players from Ukraine, the Republic of Ireland, Hong Kong, Germany, Belgium and India.
Captain of the students Dima Gromov, of Ukraine, said: “After the tumultuous week following the EU referendum it was great to restore some sense of harmony on the wicket at Barnard Castle School.”
Match organiser and director of overseas students Nick Connor added: “It was a delightful way to end the school year showing how sport transcends cultural, political and economic diversity.”
