Scott Bros answers Billingham Baby Bank appeal with free skip service

Scott Bros has come to the aid of newly launched Billingham Baby Bank by providing it with a free skip service.

The community project provides struggling families and individuals with much-needed baby and child essentials, including nappies, clothing, milk, and toys.

The charity, currently awaiting registration, was founded just six weeks ago by two Billingham mums, Terri Milne, and Lucy Connor.

Following an appeal, they have been astonished at the amount of generous donations left at its two collection points in Billingham and Middlesbrough.

However, several items proved unsuitable for use and the baby bank was in danger of running out of storage space.

They posted a plea for help on Facebook that was spotted by Scott Bros director, Peter Scott and within 48-hours the Stockton-based firm had delivered a skip, which once full, will be removed and its contents sorted for recycling.

Terri Milne, project manager and co-founder of Friends In Strength and Hope (FISH) and Billingham Baby Bank said: “We’d like to thank all those who have been so generous with their donations, but unfortunately some items could not be used for safety and hygiene reasons.

“Storage space was at a premium so we can’t thank Peter enough for his quick response and offer of a free skip.”

She and Lucy had already established FISH to provide hygiene and cleaning products to those experiencing financial difficulties and the idea to launch a baby bank emerged from that.

Peter Scott said: “This pandemic has left many with young families struggling and, with Christmas fast approaching, it’s important that projects such as this exist to offer support. As a family-run firm, we are pleased to be able to contribute to such a very deserving community cause.”

For hygiene reasons, Billingham Baby Bank is appealing for donations of brand-new underwear, bottles, teats for bottles and dummies.  Other essential items being accepted include nappies, milk, clothes, shoes, toys, prams, cots, and bedding.

Donations can be made via Billingham Cars, on Belasis Avenue, Billingham, every Tuesday, throughout the day and at the former TA Centre on Longlands Road, Middlesbrough, on Thursdays, between 10am-2pm.
