Award-winning costume designer Paul Shriek will put his super-sharp creative skills to the ultimate test this summer, with the help of visitors at Life Science Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Paul will be taking up temporary residence in the science centre’s new Making Studios from 11.00am – 3.00pm on Monday 19 August 2019 to inspire and help visitors to create super hero capes and masks.

Paul, winner of ‘Best Costume Design’ at the 2018 Great British Panto Awards, said:

“I’ve been working in the fashion theatre industry for the past 40 years, where I’ve built up a reputation for ‘out of the ordinary’ designs. I’m excited to head to Life Science Centre to encourage a new generation to explore innovative designs to express their inner super hero.”

His visit to Life marks the start of the science centre’s Super Hero Fortnight – two weeks of super hero-themed activities (19 August – 1 September 2019). During Super Hero Fortnight, visitors to Life can continue to make super hero costumes with the help of Life’s in-house Makers and discover the science behind the seemingly nature-defying powers of some of their favourite super heroes in its theatre show Super Hero Science.

Lindsey Stevenson, one of Life’s resident Makers, said:

“It’s great that we can launch Super Hero Fortnight with such a renowned costume designer – I can’t wait to see what he comes up with!

”This isn’t all that we’ve got going on in Life’s brand-new Making Studios this summer. There’s plenty for families to get stuck into throughout the school holidays, including wool crafts and block printing, with all materials provided.”

In addition, visitors during Super Hero Fortnight can enter a prize draw to win a VIP ticket for four to the opening night of the spectacular live action stunt show Marvel Universe LIVE!, at Utilita Arena in Newcastle on Thursday 21 November. The VIP experience includes pre-show hospitality and the chance to meet a few stars from the show.
