Simon Bailes continues Support for Chernobyl’s Children

17847Simon Bailes Peugeot will once again provide its support for children affected by the Chernobyl Disaster.

For the past ten years, Simon Bailes Peugeot has worked with the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children, a charity which provides help for children growing up in Belarus in Eastern Europe; an area still feeling the affects of the 1986 nuclear accident.

Each year, Friends of Chernobyl organises a visit to Northallerton, where a group of twelve children visit a variety of local attractions and receive health checkups.

One of the regular aspects of children’s tour of the area is a shopping trip, courtesy of Simon Bailes Peugeot. Since the first trip in 2005, the Northallerton dealership has bought trainers for the children to take back to Belarus. The trainers are measured in the children’s correct sizes, with the footwear often lasting until they return next year.

Simon Bailes, Managing Director of Simon Bailes Peugeot, said “I always enjoy the children’s trip to Northallerton, it is one of the highlights of mine and the children’s year. I have met some truly inspirational young people since the visits started in 2005 and I am looking forward to meeting many more in the years to come. The youngsters also love the experience of shopping and comparing styles and colours.

“It has been my pleasure to provide trainers for the children over the past ten years. The fact that we can send these kids back home with some quality shoes is fantastic; the children take nothing for granted and are always very excited to get their new footwear.”
