Solicitors tackle 10K challenge for St Benedict’s

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 15.46.45A FIRM of Sunderland-based solicitors are lining up to take on the city’s 10k challenge after naming a local hospice as its designated charity for the second year in a row.

A team from Sweeney Miller will tackle the Sunderland 10K on May 1 as part of a series of challenges to raise funds for St Benedict’s Hospice, at Ryhope, near Sunderland.

The team includes solicitor Damien Todd, office manager Sarah Taylor, trainee solicitor Jessica Fenwick, residential conveyancer Jemma Rackstraw and paralegal Gemma Brown.

Last year, one of the team’s main challenges included zooming along a zip wire off the top of the BALTIC in Gateshead. The firm, which also has an office in Newcastle, raised around £2,000 for the charity in 2015 and are hoping to top that number this year.

Paul Miller, a partner at the firm, said: “St Benedict’s is a really worthy cause and we were keen to adopt them again this year. They provide an excellent service. It’s the little things they do for patients and their families which sets them apart.”

Catrina Flynn, fundraising manager at St Benedict’s Hospice, said: “We’re delighted that Sweeney Miller has chosen us as their charity again and we appreciate so much the literal lengths they are going to in the shape of the Sunderland 10K to help raise funds for us.”

St Benedict’s still has places for people to join their team in the Sunderland 10K and Sunderland half marathon in May. To sign up contact the hospice on 0191 512 8436.
