Soul and disco queen Candi Staton and dance floor fillers House Gospel Choir head up Sage Gateshead NYE extravaganza

Sage Gateshead is bringing the party spirit to the Quayside, as it announces the headline acts for its New Year’s Eve extravaganza.

Candi Staton, the four-time Grammy award nominated artist famed for such floor-fillers as Young Hearts Run Free and You Got the Love will be ringing in 2018 with disco hits and pop classics. She is flying in from the States for this exclusive, one night only performance.

Throughout her career spanning more than 50 years, Candi has had a string of successful hits, and been covered and sampled by artists including Florence and the Machine, Christina Aguilera and Joss Stone. She is also cited as an inspiration by artists including Aretha Franklin, Paloma Faith, Jessie J, Pixie Lott and Mary J Blige.

House Gospel Choir will also perform their mash-up brand of house and gospel, sharing an eclectic musical experience with audiences to get them up and dancing. The choir brings together outstanding singers with DJs, live keyboards, bass and drums to create a sound that raises the roof.

As well as Candi Staton’s exclusive performance and House Gospel Choir, Sage Gateshead will also have food and drink, DJs and performances on the concourse. Dining options are available, including a three course dinner with half a bottle of wine for £39.

The dinner will take place 6pm-8.30pm on the concourse, with the doors opening at 8.30 pm for the House Gospel Choir’s first performance of the evening. The entertainment will continue until 2am on New Year’s Day.

Tamsin Austin, Director of Programming at Sage Gateshead said: “It is very exciting for Sage Gateshead to have such a musical powerhouse flying in to play our New Year’s Eve party. Candi Staton is an icon, who has inspired so many artists, and we know she’ll be fantastic and along with House Gospel Choir who have wow-ing the festival circuit this summer, together they should bring the house down!
