North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

209Sports stars of the future have once again received a boost from the district council.

Twenty five young people have received access to free training to assist them in attaining their sporting goals.

The 10 to 17 show their talents in 12 different sports including athletics, cricket, rugby, football, swimming, hockey, biathlon, cycling, triathlon, cross country and fell running, with some of them competing in multi-disciplines and 15 of them at regional level.

The athletes each receive a ‘Zestcard’ worth £280 per year giving them free use of selected facilities at council’s four leisure centres and also the Galtres Centre in Easingwold.

“Providing free training facilities for talented young sportspeople has been received very positively,” said David Earl, Development Officer – Health and Wellbeing.

“To improve yourself as an athlete takes immense dedication, and usually great expense and we are delighted that we can offer this help and support.”
