DINERS CAN enjoy a Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings and none of the washing up, thanks to a leading Gosforth restaurant.
This year San Lorenzo, at Gosforth High Street, is opening its doors on Christmas Day for the very first time.
And there is no need for anyone to feel guilty as they tuck into their roast, with the decision to open on Christmas Day coming from restaurant staff.
Diners will enjoy a glass of champagne on arrival, followed by a choice between pan-seared king scallops, aromatic confit duck spring roll, twice-baked gruyere cheese and leek soufflé or Moroccan spiced pumpkin and sweet potato soup.
A scoop of Prosecco and mandarin sorbet serves as a middle course, while mains include 28 days aged 8oz fillet steak, pan roast North Sea turbot or chestnut, cranberry and parsnip nut loaf, with roasted turkey ballotine for traditionalists.
Then for dessert, choose from a traditional, homemade Christmas pudding, continental cheese board, warm salted caramel brownie or Pornstar Martini cheesecake.
And little ones are also catered for, with soup, potato skins or dough balls to start, followed by a turkey dinner, chicken fingers or a choice of pizza or pasta and a homemade brownie or ice cream to finish.
Stuart Young, of Cyclone Leisure Ltd, which owns San Lorenzo, believes it is a great solution for those looking to take the pressure away from the big day.
“Everyone has their specific Christmas traditions but it’s always nice to try something different,” said Stuart.
“This year we’re giving people the option of having a few more hours in bed, with no need to worry about fitting everything in the oven or keeping an eye on the clock.
“Our chefs have pulled together a fantastic menu with plenty of options and we’re looking forward to sharing the festive spirit with our diners.”
The three-course Christmas dinner costs £80 per adult and £50 per child and must be pre-ordered by 1 December.
