Stockton-based folk festival set for September

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 16.13.05Leading Teesside arts organisations Tees Music Alliance and ARC Stockton have announced plans for Infinite Folk, a folk-inspired music festival on Saturday 17 September, and some big names are in the pipeline.

Infinite Folk will feature the best of acoustic, roots and lo-fi music and will take place across three venues in Stockton, with Teesside folk duo Megson set to be the main headliner.

The one day festival will act as a platform to enable folk acts from across the country to head to Teesside, building upon the incredible success of other music events such as Stockton Calling, and ultimately adding to the town’s growing reputation of providing world class arts events.

Bands will perform across two stages at ARC – The Point and Studio, as well as The Green Room and The Georgian Theatre.

Further details will be announced over the coming months, but the organisers are already excited about the scope of the festival, as Paul Burns from TMA commented:

“Infinite Folk will be the ultimate music festival for people who love to listen to great music in a laid back festival atmosphere. We want to build on Stockton’s excellent reputation for attracting outstanding musicians and artists to the town.

“We have been keeping our ears to the ground in terms of finding the best artists from the region and beyond, which will fit with the ethos of the festival. We’re pretty certain that the talented acts we have already lined up are going to make it another really special event for the people of Stockton.”

Annabel Turpin, Chief Executive of ARC said: “After the brilliant success of Stockton Calling, we are really excited to work with TMA again on what is set to be another great day of music. It’s an amazing opportunity for folk acts to come to the fore, and embrace the town and the brilliant atmosphere that comes with arts led festivals.”

Three times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the Spiral Earth Awards,Megson draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create a truly unique brand of folk music. The husband and wife duo bring an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars.

Infinite Folk festival will take place on Saturday 17 September from 5pm. More details and line ups will be announced over the coming months, and tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am. Tickets cost £15 in advance and £17.50 on the day, and will be available from www.arconline.co.uk or by calling ARC’s Box Office on 01642 525199.
