Gateshead start-up Tri Construction has marked the end of its first year in business with a £3m contract win to expand a flagship industrial estate.

The firm has been appointed as principal contractors by UK Land Estates for the latest phase of the ambitious Intersect 19 development at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate.

Funded with support from the North East LEP’s Local Growth Fund, it is one of the first speculative developments at the site in almost a decade and aims to drive manufacturing growth and job creation in North Tyneside.

Work is underway on the high specification unit that will offer 52,939sqft of modern high-bay manufacturing space with 9.8m eaves height, good power availability and the capability to provide 20t overhead craneage.

The superstructure is now in place, with work expected to be completed and ready for new tenants by September.

Turning over £3.8m in its first year, Tri Construction, led by directors Keith Wigham, Graham Urwin and Jack Bruce, is forecasting the figure to top £5m by the end of year two.

Providing a high-value and personal service, the team has built a solid reputation for delivering challenging projects on time and on budget.

Projects carried out across the North East include the expansion of leading European components manufacturer, JB Components, and the design and build of high-quality retail units on Teesside Industrial Estate, in Thornaby.

With over 65 years’ experience in the industry, the directors have a wealth of expertise in a wide range of construction sectors including commercial, industrial, health and education.

“It’s been a very positive first year for the business and we are proud to be working on flagship developments across the region, which are helping to drive economic growth,” said Jack Bruce, who is onsite managing the Intersect 19 project.

He added: “As directors, we are involved in every stage of the project from start to finish and through working closely with our clients, we can ensure their requirements are met on time and on budget.

“We are already expanding our team due to the volume of work and we are looking forward to delivering more successful projects for clients over the next 12 months.”
