Teesside-based The Student Living Company has added to its list of honours with two prestigious awards from the North East Student Housing Awards 2017 (NESHA).

For the second consecutive year the firm has won the title of Teesside Student Landlord of the Year, in addition to the special North East Lifetime Achievement award for General Manager Mark Oates.

The annual awards, held at The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle, is a celebration of the very best in student housing and property management, and showcases those in the industry that continuously deliver property, service and standards at the highest level.

The Student Living Company, which is part of Python Properties’ portfolio of businesses, is located adjacent to Teesside University in Middlesbrough on the corner of University Boulevard and Borough Road.

Established in 1996 by business partners Martin Johnson and Peter Broome, the firm provides high quality accommodation to 520 students every year, who are attending Teesside University in Middlesbrough and Durham University’s Queen’s Campus in Stockton-on-Tees.

Mr Johnson, said: “We are delighted for our talented and experienced team, and especially our General Manager Mark Oates, to receive these prestigious honours.  It is true testament to their unquivering professional standard and relationship with student tenants.

“The judging panel could appreciate that our personal ethos since first establishing 21 years ago has never changed; we are committed to providing students with a first-class accommodation experience and unmatched level of customer support and service.”

“We were also praised for our energy efficient program through advances in building maintenance and support for international students.  We have recognised and embraced the need for international student support and provide bespoke packages plus interpretation and translation services in Chinese, French and German.”

The firm has enjoyed a number of accolades in recent years, including being highly commended at the national Property Week Student Accommodation Awards in December 2016 in the Operator of the Year category.  At the 2016 NESHA ceremony the company won the titles for Teesside Student Landlord of the Year and North East Student Landlord of the Year, as well as North East Lifetime Achievement award for the two founders.

Mr Oates, said: “I am personally honoured to accept the North East Lifetime Achievement, I have been part of The Student Living Company team for more than 12 years and I relish the challenge of managing a large property portfolio.  I also derive great satisfaction from knowing that our team do an outstanding job and that going the extra mile is part of every team members’ personal philosophy.”
