Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Student shoppers bag a bargain at intu Metrocentre

Thousands of students from universities and colleges across the north east started the academic year in style with an exclusive shopping event at the region’s biggest shopping centre.

intu Metrocentre laid on an evening of exclusive discounts, free giveaways, exciting competitions and live entertainment at its annual student night which has become a firm favourite on the student social calendar.

Student shoppers took advantage of discounts from over 60 retailers and snapped up stylish bargains from well loved brands such as River Island, schuh, New Look Men and Oasis.

3000 goodie bags were given away to savvy student shoppers while elsewhere in the centre they were treated to a funky mix of Capital North East’s hottest music.

Fans of Love Island flocked to an exclusive meet and greet with the hit reality show’s local star Alex Beattie. Later that night Alex, who previously worked at Topman at intu Metrocentre, posted on his Instagram to his 695,000 followers about his appearance at the student night.

Alex said: “A huge thank you to intu Metrocentre for inviting and hosting a meet and greet for me during the student evening. I was overwhelmed by the amount of people who took time to come and say hello, have photos taken and offer me their good wishes and kind words. It was such a pleasure to meet you all and be back in my local area.”

Naomi Nelson from Morpeth commented: “We’ve bought loads tonight! I’ve bought a new dress and loads of make-up too. It’s been a great night and meeting Alex was definitely a highlight.”

Kathryn Abrahams from Washington added: “We loved Love Island, we used to watch it constantly and couldn’t wait to meet Alex when we heard he was coming to intu Metrocentre.”

Arianna Tranza, a student from Newcastle said: “I’m having so much fun with my friends tonight. We’ve been everywhere in the centre!”
