A collaboration of young art students and north east artists has led to a second exhibition by arts and music company Pink Steam Production, which will run for one month.
Following the success of the Pink Steam one night exhibition in February, the same students from Cleveland College of Art & Design (CCAD) are exhibiting a collection of pieces – including a new range of work – to be unveiled at a preview night on Thursday 5th May, from 7pm at the House of Blah Blah in Exchange Square in Middlesbrough.
The talented artists include Sarah Kendall, 19 from Ormesby in Middlesbrough, who is studying for her level 3 foundation diploma in art and design at the college campus on Green Lane in Middlesbrough.
Sarah said: “The first Pink Steam event in February was such a success, with over 200 visitors, and we wanted to build on that. This exhibition combines some previous art from the first event but also introduces some new works from our studies. In my fine art pieces I explore my interest in sleep and consciousness; how our minds become separate from our bodies and we lose a sense of identity and control during sleep.”
After graduating from CCAD, Sarah is going to Edinburgh University to study for a degree in painting.
Exhibiting their works alongside Sarah are fellow CCAD students Eden Calgie, Oskar Frere-Smith and Archie Hyde, CCAD technician demonstrator, Jade Sweeting and artists Phil Larry and Jessica Armstrong.
28-year-old Jade from Linthorpe in Middlesbrough studied for a national diploma in fine art at CCAD, followed by a degree in fine art specialising in print making at Northumbria University, and is now an illustration technician demonstrator at the college. She said: “The preview will be an excellent night of art and entertainment, with the exhibition alongside the launch of the Blah Blah Art Bar. This will be a weekly event showcasing new talent in the warehouse alongside a permanent exhibition and the art will also be on available to purchase. We also have a DJ and live music from Newcastle band Mausoleum and local Middlesbrough band, Flowermouth.”
