FAMILIES are set to have a marvellous time on Skinnergate as the first ever Summertime Fun event gets underway on Thursday 21 June from 4.30pm until 8pm.
Free entertainment includes street theatre, banjo playing, face painting, balloon modelling and magic, juggling workshops, hula-hooping, salsa street dance and street buskers near Voodoo Cafe.
Youngsters will also get the chance to meet Police dogs Jet and Ben as well as Prince and Princess Charming outside the Darlington Flyer, superheroes in The Keys. The Quaker Meeting House will also have an information stall and cakes.
There will also be live music with James Moss, guitarist and harmonica player, performing outside the Tapas Bar on Bondgate and Ian Sharp, banjo player, performing on Blackwellgate.
As well as entertainment, families will be well catered for with special family meal offers and kids high teas at a range of restaurants along the street and in the town centre, including Al Fornos, where kids can have a go at making their own pizza.
Heidi Smith, manager at the Darlington Flyer said:
“This is a great chance to take advantage of longer summer evenings and enjoy some quality family time. There are some lovely places to eat, drink and shop along Skinnergate and this event, we hope, will help celebrate this.”
The event has been organised by Skinnergate traders in partnership with #LoveDarlo and Darlington Borough Council and it is hoped that the event will let more people know about what’s on offer on Skinnergate.
