SHOPPERS can be in with the chance to win prizes and support two good causes at the same time, thanks to Sunderland’s the Bridges.

Shopping centres across the UK have signed up for One Great Day, a charity initiative which raises funds throughout June for London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital and other worthy, local organisations.

And this year the Bridges will be taking part, by running a tombola in the centre on Saturday 23 June.

All money raised will be shared between Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and, closer to home, Sunderland Royal Neonatal Unit.

Scores of great prizes have been donated, with everything from hampers to gift cards, cosmetics to pampering packages, up for grabs.

At the same time a range of family friendly entertainment is planned throughout the day, including balloon modelling and face painting.

Andy Bradley, centre director at the Bridges, is hopeful the event will be a huge success.

“People in Sunderland are known for their generosity and we’ve seen that already with the number of amazing prizes that have been donated,” he said.

“We’re hopeful that generous spirit will continue on the day and that shoppers will take part in the tombola and win some fantastic items, while supporting two very worthy causes at the same time.

“There are dozens of shopping centres around the UK supporting One Great Day in a variety of ways and it would be fantastic if we could be top of the leader board by managing to raise a substantial amount of money.”
