Sunderland’s Christmas cheer to continue until New Year…

THE FESTIVE feeling is set to continue all the way to New Year in Sunderland, with the news that the city’s Frost Village is to remain open an extra week.

The open air ice rink was originally due to close on Christmas Eve, but due to public demand it will now stay until New Year’s Eve.

At the same time, the Frost Village’s winter market is now open every day until 23 December, with a whole host of exciting stallholders heading to the city.

And families can really get into the Christmas spirit with a free showing of the Disney favourite Frozen on the giant screen at 11am on Christmas Eve.

As originally planned, the rink will close at 6pm on Christmas Eve but will now re-open for an additional week from 10am on Boxing Day.

Gemma Dishman, Marketing and Communications Manager at Sunderland BID which organises the Frost Village, revealed that the ice rink has been a huge success.

“Since we opened in November we’ve been inundated with visitors, and once again the ice rink has proved incredibly popular,” she said.

“And because everyone has been having so much fun we’ve decided to extend it so everyone can enjoy the rink right up until New Year’s Eve.”

The Frost Village is open daily from 10am until 9pm except on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it will close at 6pm.

Ice skating sessions on these days are expected to be very busy so people are advised to book in advance.
