Superstar line-up revealed for all-women comedy night in aid of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland

Catch Jessica Fostekew, Sammy Dobson and Lauren Pattison at Tyne Bank Brewery this September…

Fancy a feel-good giggle? You’re in luck, as tickets are now on-sale for an all-women comedy night with a cause. Taking place at Tyne Bank Brewery on Thursday 20 September, the Women’s Comedy Night, raising funds for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, is set to raise the roof.

The entire evening will be hosted by the fabulous, Lou Conran – superlative storyteller and a regular on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. Fresh from her stint at Edinburgh Fringe, Conran will ensure the audience is in good hands – thanks to her masterful ability to tease audience members while becoming their best friend for the night.

Says Lou Conran:

“I’m delighted to be able to support Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland by performing at this brilliant gig. The women taking part are second-to-none and, as always, are the audiences. It’s guaranteed to be an amazing night got an amazing cause, and you’d be a fool to miss it.”

First up on the comedy bill is Jessica Fostekew, who has been described by The Guardian as a woman who “wears her smarts on her sleeve.” A regular guest host of the Guilty Feminist Podcast, Fostekew is guaranteed to have audience members roaring with laughter. Fostekew’s 2017 Fringe stint has been described as ‘utterly engaging’ with critics announcing that they could ‘watch her all day.’

Says Fostekew:

“The work that Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland are doing is so important; they’re filling in the gaps left by cuts after cuts after cuts to every other type of support available and must, in various cases, be the only port of call for some people. I couldn’t be more excited to be supporting anything and everything that goes on in support of them.”

Joining Fostekew at the brewery is local lass, Sammy Dobson who is a regular supporter of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, and once made the late Victoria Wood laugh. Often seen at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle City Centre, Dobson is a real local hero.

Headlining on the night is fellow Geordie, Lauren Pattison – a Best Newcomer Nominee at last year’s Edinburgh comedy awards, no less! Fresh from taking her new show, Peachy to Edinburgh Fringe, Pattison was previously a finalist at the Chortle Student Comedy Awards in 2015, and at the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2016. Making waves across the comedy scene, Pattison is a real joy to watch.

The Women’s Comedy Night is just one of a string of events, throughout 2018, aiming to raise funds for Newcastle-based charity, Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland. Now in their 40th year, the charity is looking to raise £40,000 in 2018, enabling them to continue their work with women and girls affected by sexual violence.

The Women’s Comedy Night will take place on Thursday September 20, 2018 from 7pm – 10pm at Tyne Bank Brewery, 375 Walker Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 2AB. Tickets are £20 for general admission and £15 for concessions. Please note that an additional Eventbrite Booking Fee will be charged.
