THE Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees is holding a sponsored duck race on Stockton’s Riverside to raise money for three armed forces charities.
Councillor Ken Dixon will launch the plastic ducks into the River Tees from Infinity Marine (next to HMS Endeavour), Stockton on Saturday 9 July at 1.30pm.
The ducks must travel 200 metres with the first handful to cross the finishing line scooping a range of exciting prizes. The ducks are now on sale at the Rediscover Shop and from the Mayor’s office. They are also available from the reception at the Council’s Municipal Buildings on Church Road. Each duck costs £1 with businesses able to buy special larger, corporate ducks for £100 each.
Members of the public are welcome to come along on the day, buy a duck and watch the race from the Riverside.
All proceeds from the duck race will go towards the three military organisations – The Rifles Care for Casualties, The Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund and One Close Support Regiment REME.
Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, Councillor Ken Dixon, said: “It’s so important we show our support and respect for members of all those who have served – or are serving – in our armed forces and all proceeds raised will go to charities and organisations to support veterans and their families.
“You can buy ducks in advance from Municipal Buildings or the Rediscover Shop on Stockton High Street or come along on the day, buy a duck and enjoy Stockton’s glorious Riverside.”
The duck race is part of Stockton’s third Pirate Festival. Throughout the day visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of pirate-themed activities and live music across venues in and around the Riverside and Town Centre.
