SUPPORT FOR SUNDERLAND FOODBANK…

SUNDERLAND’s leading shopping centre and a local Rotary group has joined forces to support the city’s foodbank.

The Bridges and Rotary SR1 – which regularly supports good causes across Sunderland – has donated £1500 to Sunderland Foodbank to help it with its work.

The organisation gives out three days of emergency food supplies on a regular basis to families and individuals referred to them, including providing a range of essential toiletry items to help those in need.

The Bridges has donated £1000, with the remainder topped up by the Rotary group to ensure that even more families can be helped.

“It’s a very difficult time for everyone, but particularly for people who are in difficulties for any number of reasons,” said Andy Bradley, Centre Director at the Bridges.

“And we wanted to try and help in some small way families who may be struggling more than most at this time, which is why we are so glad to be able to support the great work being done by Sunderland Foodbank.”

Cheryl Holmstrom, a member of the SR1 Rotary group which is made up of business people from across the city, said the organisation was delighted to be topping up the Bridges’ donation.

“Rotary SR1 is all about helping worthy causes in and around the city in whatever way we can,” she said.

“And when we heard that the Bridges was making a donation to Sunderland Foodbank, we agreed that we should add something to the pot so that the money could go even further.”

Jo Gordon, co-ordinator at Sunderland Foodbank said. “Sunderland foodbank would like to thank the Bridges and Rotary SR1 for supporting us at this critical time. Their donation of £1500 will be used to purchase the items of food that we are running short of. Without the organisations and individuals in Sunderland behind us, we could not continue to help the people in our city who are in need.”
