Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Supporting Local Hospice

Screen Shot 2015-05-12 at 12.59.16Stanley-based building and roofing specialist, Hodgson Sayers, has called upon its expertise to come to the aid of Willow Burn Derwentside Hospice Care Foundation, Lanchester.

As the company recruits the vast majority of its staff from the local area, giving back to the community is a top priority and it was only too keen to undertake much needed roofing repairs to the hospice.

Sue Spencer, Head of Care Services at Willow Burn Hospice, said: “We approached Hodgson Sayers as we know it to be a community focused company that has a proud history of supporting worthy causes in our area. As a hospice, it is our aim to provide comfort to our patients. We are a charity and receive a third of our funding from the NHS. We rely heavily on the goodwill of voluntary support, local community funding and the leadership of a small team and our Board of Trustees to be able to deliver our services.

“We were thrilled when Hodgson Sayers offered to carry out the roofing repairs free of charge. We now have a watertight structure and we are all impressed by the new physical appearance. We have been offering hospice palliative and end-of-life care for 26 years and the repairs come as a huge boost for us as having this work done means we can focus on our main role of caring for and supporting residents and their families.”

John Sayers, Managing Director at Hodgson Sayers, said: “We greatly admire the work of Willow Burn Hospice, whose nurses provide care, compassion and comfort for the residents. The roofing repairs were the least we could do and it is always very satisfying for us to see how our work really provides added value to those who most need it.

“We had a small team working on the project. The ridge tiles were very loose due to wear and tear over the years, so we repointed them and carried out some felt and flat roof repairs to ensure the infrastructure is watertight.

“We would like to thank Darlington Scaffold who have kindly supported us by supplying and erecting the scaffold at a much reduced cost.”

Established in 1979, the company was primarily a roofing contractor. Over the years it has developed and diversified considerably to include building works, fencing and metalwork fabrication.

Living up to its key values of honesty, decency and integrity, the company became the first in the North East construction sector to accept Living Wage accreditation and has publicly backed The Journal’s Pay Fair campaign encouraging the payment of suppliers on time and wider ethical trading practices.

In 2014 Hodgson Sayers featured in the Ward Hadaway ‘Fastest 50 Growing Companies’ and in 2015 it was acknowledged by the London Stock Exchange as one of the ‘1000 companies to Inspire Britain 2015.’

It’s ISO9001 & ISO14001 accredited operations are reflected in the consistently high standards of delivery, presentation and all processes.
