A cross-country race that embraces stamina, commitment and is rewarded by chocolate cake, saw hundreds of pupils from Cundall Manor School don their running shoes and head out across the North Yorkshire countryside.

The eagerly awaited tradition saw pupils from across the school brave a testing cross-country course, with pupils as young as two taking part in an abridged version of the race, while over 250 pupils taking part in the main event.

Director of Sport at Cundall Manor School, John Liley, said: “The Chocolate Cake Race and the Vale Run hold a special place in Cundall tradition. It is wonderful to see so many of our school compete in such a sportsmanlike manner and have so much fun doing so.”

“A special mention deserves to go to our winners, some of whom have claimed the top prize for several years on the bounce, a fantastic achievement.”

Scores of parents, grandparents, siblings and staff all cheered on the plucky athletes from across the school as they completed the gruelling course.

With 4 trophies up for grabs alongside the eponymous Chocolate Cake, a fast-paced race saw Venetia, Ruby, Freddy and William claim the individual prizes with the overall winning house trophy going to the Normans along with the infamous Chocolate Cake.
