Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

TAKE PART IN THE SUMMER PARADE

BUDDING CREATIVES are invited to put their mark on one of the biggest carnival events in the North East.

The South Tyneside Festival’s Summer Parade returns on 6 July, when a whole host of colourful costumes and floats will make their way through South Shields, ending with an afternoon of entertainment at Bents Park.

And organisers of the popular event are encouraging artistic types across the region to get involved to help bring this year’s Space Fantasy theme to life.

South Shields-based carnival company Creative Seed, who are working closely with the council on the parade, are hosting a series of information sessions at their Arts and Culture Centre, at St Hilda’s Pit Head, Henry Robson Way.

Taking place between 11am and 8pm on 1, 2, 4 and 5 April, anyone interested in taking part in the parade can book a place at a session to speak to Creative Seed and find out more about getting involved.

“We’re delighted to be teaming up with the council again on the Summer Parade and we have an amazing theme to work with this year,” said Sandy Harris, of Creative Seed.

“It’s a great event for the region and a real community effort to pull together so we would love to have as many people involved as possible, whether that’s a community group or just someone who wants to take part with their friends or family.

“Coming along to the information sessions is a great way to hear about the different aspects and roles in the parade and how to help.”

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for culture and leisure, is looking forward to seeing the theme brought to life.

“The Summer Parade is always a highlight of the South Tyneside Festival and it is wonderful to see the streets filled with so much colour,” said Cllr Kerr.

“It is a great event for the whole family and fantastic for South Shields, attracting people from all over the region and beyond.

“The team at Creative Seed always live up to their name and deliver beautiful floats and costumes, so I can’t wait to see what they do with this year’s theme.”

The South Tyneside Festival is organised by South Tyneside Council and supported by BBC Newcastle 95.4FM, with a packed programme of events taking place across three months.
