Supply chain companies in Tees Valley are to be given presentations from key executives from two of the UK’s most significant rail projects at an executive business briefing.
The breakfast event, hosted by Tees Valley Unlimited in partnership with Teesside Engineering Network (TEN) will focus on the high speed rail project, HS2 and Crossrail, the 100 kilometre railway line under construction in London and surrounding areas.
The keynote speakers, at the February 12 briefing, will comprise:
- Joanna Sloane,HS2 Supply Chain Manager, who will present a project overview including the contract opportunities, tendering timetables, and how potential suppliers can identify business opportunities.
- Mark Lomas, HS2 Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) will present an overview of its approach to EDI and what this means for suppliers.
- Simon Pain, CrossrailPrincipal Programme Supply Chain Manager, who will cover the numerous remaining opportunities within the mechanical and electrical and station fit-out elements. Crossrail’s main contractors require a range of specialists in order to create a functional railway ready for Crossrail’s opening from 2017.
- Len Walker, Programme Manager with CompeteFor, a free service used extensively during London 2012 Olympics, that enables businesses to compete for contracts linked to major public and private sector buying organisations.
There will be a Q&A session to enable delegates to have direct dialogue with the speakers.
Cllr Bill Dixon, Leader of Darlington Council and Leadership Board member at Tees Valley Unlimited, the Local Enterprise Partnership for Tees Valley, said: “This executive briefing will give Tees Valley companies the inside track on the extensive supply chain opportunities that will be created by two of the most significant transport projects of recent times.
“One of TVU’s roles is to open doors so that businesses can engage directly with influencers and decision-makers connected with high-level regeneration and industrial projects.”
Rob Johnson, Director of Axiom Engineering Associates Ltd, one of the TEN founders, said: “The delivery of HS2 and Crossrail depends on the availability of companies with key competencies. Tees Valley has an extensive pool of businesses with the appropriate skills, expertise and capabilities.
“We are determined that these companies are made aware of the opportunities and what they need to do to establish themselves as contenders to secure contracts generated by HS2 and Crossrail.”
The free event takes place at the Beehive, Lingfield Point, Darlington, on Friday February 12 with breakfast and registration from8am.
