Teesside Hospice Goes Ding Dong Merrily on Mince Pie

Supermarkets are stocking up on them, food journos are reviewing them, and families feel the need to add them to their list of festive treats – on their own or with a scrumptious topping, we’ll all soon be tucking into a traditional mince pie.  Well, maybe not all of us, and therein starts the Teesside Hospice #MincePieChallenge

Teesside Hospice will be tinselling up and continuing to provide its vital care services throughout Christmas and the festive season; ensuring that patients and their families can experience a home from home environment at this special time of year.  What many don’t realise, however, is that patients with a life-limiting illness can often experience a change in or a decreased sense of taste and may not be able to enjoy the taste of their favourite festive foods. To recognise this and to help raise awareness and funds, Teesside Hospice are asking the people of Teesside to join in their #MincePieChallenge

It’s simple to join in.  Firstly, take a delicious mince pie and decide on a food taste that you really don’t like for your topping.  Whether that’s mustard, pickled gherkins, anchovies or egg – add lashings of it to your mince pie!  Next, grab your mobile phone and start to film your challenge.  Pledge a donation to Teesside Hospice, brave the taste and eat your not-so-delicious mince pie combo, and then tag three friends to join in the challenge!

Debbie Coulson, Marketing & Fundraising Manager, said, “This year we wanted to get into the Christmas spirit whilst recognising the challenges that some of us will be facing.  The Teesside Hospice #MincePieChallenge is a fun way for people to help us spread awareness and raise funds, yet it associates itself with the real challenges around food and taste for those with a life-limiting illness. We really hope the people of Teesside will join in the #MincePieChallenge and share their inventive taste combos across their social media!

Donations can be made by calling the Fundraising Team on tel: 01642 811145 (Monday-Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm) or to donate £3, simply text MPIE18£3 to 70070 (Cost of £3 plus standard message rates may apply. 100% of the donation goes directly to Teesside Hospice).  Donations can also be posted with a donation form.  Full details are available on https://teessidehospice.org/events/mince-pie-challenge/detail
