A housebuilder’s community fund, which invites applications from community-based clubs and societies, has awarded ten Teesside based charities donations from its first round of applications.

With amounts ranging from £250 to £750, Miller Homes Teesside chose the charities from a varied range of applications across the entire Teesside region. The team was delighted to pay a visit to two charities in South Bank and Grangetown in Middlesbrough, to see how the money donated would be used.

“It was so good for members of our team to visit two of our recipients, Backstreet Theatre and St John’s Church and see the amazing work they are doing in our local communities,” said Donna Clark, Associate Sales Director, Miller Homes Teesside. “Groups and charities like this really do make a difference to the positive wellbeing of so many people and we are delighted to be able to help sustain their activities.”

Backstreet Theatre is a community-based performance group whose participants have varying degrees of learning disabilities. Known for providing entertaining shows for the local community and building confidence for the group in their everyday lives the monies received from Miller Homes will help them to update their scenery backdrops.

Meanwhile, St John’s Church offers many activities for its local parishioners but has recently set up a Warm Space project, whereby residents an keep warm and have a hot breakfast for free. The monies from Miller Homes will help to fund this over the winter months.

“It is very heart-warming to hear of all the projects that are happening in our communities, and we feel privileged to be part of such a caring region,” said Donna. “Thank you to everyone who took the time to apply and we wish everyone ongoing success in their respective groups.”

Other recipients from the first round of funding were Nunthorpe Athletic Junior Football Club, Sedgefield Primary School, Grangetown Primary School, Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme, Middlesbrough Sportability Club, Catterick Village Junior Football Club, Friends of Lazer Cheer and St Hilda’s Church Baby Bank.

The next round of applications will be opening again soon. Further details can be found at https://www.millerhomes.co.uk/corporate/community-fund.aspx
