In just eight months, The Botanist Newcastle has established itself as one of the city centre’s most popular bars and is now celebrating its first national award shortlist.
It has been named Best Managed Pub for Yorkshire, North East & Scotland in The Great British Pub Awards, and will go up against five other regional winners this September, hoping to take the top spot.
The awards hosted by The Publican’s Morning Advertiser are recognised as the ‘pub industry Oscars’ by licensees. Following a second judging visit, the category winners will be announced at the London award ceremony.
Andrew Shiel-Redfern said: “We are over the moon to have won the regional heat of the awards – especially as it covers further afield than simply the North East. We’re not yet a year old so it’s testament to all the hard work the team has put in since we opened.
“There were no overall winners from the region last year so we’re keen to set the bar by bringing home the prize.”
Regionally, The Botanist has also been shortlisted for Best Food Bar of the Year in the Benevolent Awards organised by Licensed Trade International. Votes can be cast here.
