Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 11.55.29THE ECONOMIC development company for County Durham is urging manufacturers to fill out its survey to ensure resources are directed in the right way to help North East businesses thrive.

The Business Durham-led survey, developed in conjunction with senior industrialists, will help the County Durham Manufacturing Task Force to gain an overview of existing business competencies, areas for growth and expansion, and improvement opportunities.

The task force,is a public/private sector partnership, with senior business leaders from manufacturing companies in the county ensuring that the manufacturing sector’s needs are met. It will draw on the success of North East manufacturing companies such as Gestamp Tallent, Caterpillar Peterlee and NSK Bearings Europe.

Manufacturing is already a vital part of the County Durham economy and employs 15% of Durham’s residents and provides 20% of its GVA and this appeal comes only days after Business Durham launched its House of Durham infographic at Oktoberfest 2015, as part of a campaign to showcase the diverse range of manufacturers in Durham and how their products are being used in our daily lives.

Simon Goon, managing director of Business Durham, said: “Durham is well placed to attract further investment but we want to understand the challenges businesses face, the types of opportunities that businesses in Durham can compete for and win and what competencies they have.

“There are many manufacturing success stories in the North East and we’re looking forward investigating ways we can maximise opportunities even further.”
