North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

THE MUSIC GOES ONMusic lovers can enjoy more brass bands and musical performances as a programme of events at the seafront this summer continues.

Hundreds of people have already enjoyed weekly performances from some of the region’s finest brass bands at the open-air Amphitheatre in South Shields.

The brass band programme, which forms part of the wider three-month line-up of free events and entertainment by South Tyneside Council, continues to take place on Sunday afternoons throughout July and August.

The People’s Mission Silver Band will kick start the July concerts on Sunday, 3 July, from 2pm until 4pm.

The rest of the July programme of brass bands will start slightly later due to the Festival’s other free Sunday afternoon concerts at nearby Bents Park, including performances from stars such as Alexandra Burke, The Proclaimers, Tony Hadley and UB40.

This means that concerts by Knapp Daneben from the Borough’s twin town of Wuppertal in Germany on 10 July, the Bright Street Big Band on 17 July, Craghead Colliery Band on 24 July and the NASUWT Concert band on 31 July will all run between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Concerts will run throughout August with music from Cockerton Prize Silver Band on 7 August, Dunston Silver Band on 14 August, Westoe Brass Band on 21 August and the NASUWT Concert Band on 28 August, with all concerts running between 2pm and 4pm.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “It is good to know there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy our programme of brass bands throughout July and August.

“These concerts are a great way to showcase the best brass bands the North East has to offer and is a wonderful way to while away a summer’s afternoon by the seaside enjoying some live music.”
