Thousands of Brits could have October Half-Term Holidays Paid for Due to Flight Delays

FAMILIES who had their summer holidays ruined by a delayed flight could be owed enough in compensation to fund an October half-term break.

2017 was a summer of flight delays, as British Airways experienced a major technical fault back in May causing worldwide disruption and cancelations, and early August saw passengers waiting in queues for up to four hours after EU border checks were tightened.

Millions of families headed overseas during the great summer getaway, with UK residents making 7.2 million visits abroad in June 2017* alone, a 4% increase on the same month last year.

Increased pressure on airports and airlines has led to passengers being much more likely to be delayed than they were five years ago, as revealed earlier this summer by flight delay compensation experts airFair.

This means more people than ever before could be entitled to as much as €600 in compensation, which is now easily checked at the touch of a button via the airFair mobile app – the first of its kind to launch in the UK.

Will Smith, head of airFair, said: “Flight delays were everywhere this summer and a high number of Brits could be owed compensation. These claim payments can be enough to get away on an October half-term break, for example a family of four delayed travelling from Birmingham to Greece could be entitled to as much as €2,400.

“It’s important for travellers to know that they are entitled to claim compensation if they are delayed, as it’s part of air travel tax which airlines put aside, so if people don’t claim when they are delayed the money just sits there. The airFair app is designed to make it easy for consumers to claim, and can be downloaded for free.”

Brits delayed for more than three hours at an airport which resides in the European Union or en-route to an EU member state could be eligible for compensation and only need a booking reference or flight number to launch a claim, but even without that information a check can be made using a departure date and destination airport.

airFair is free to download from the App Store on iOS and Android. For more information visit www.airfair.com.
