Thunder & Gene to Part Ways

TO25z-F9_400x400Newcastle Thunder have confirmed that head coach Stanley Gene will leave the club with immediate effect with his current contract now expiring.

Arriving at the club in the winter of 2013, Gene has been a key figure in the rejuvenation of the club. He led Thunder to the League 1 playoffs in the 2014 season.  The current campaign saw the Thunder finish 8th in the fourteen team division.

Following discussions between the Thunder management and Stanley Gene it has been decided that the club will seek a new head coach for 2016 and beyond.

Thunder Chairman Bill Midgeley said: “Stanley has done a good job over the last two season, helping to progress the club up to where it is today.   We have however agreed that we are at a point in time where both parties feel they can progress further by going their separate ways.”

“I’d like to take the time to thank Stanley for all his work here at Thunder and wish him all the very best for the future.”

The club will be advertising for a new head coach in the very near future.
